President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday in Abuja named former Governor of Benue State, and immediate past Minister of Special Duties, George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
He made the announcement during a meeting with Progressives Governors Forum (PGF).
The President also announced the appointment of Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff, and Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, as Deputy Chief of Staff.
Meanwhile, some APC stalwarts have described Akume’s appointment as a cheering news.Recall that in 2019, when the position of SGF was zoned to the North central, Senator Akume and Dame Pauline Tallen were the two shortlisted. Some anti-Tinubu forces accused Akume of being too close to Tinubu, because they were members of ACN.
“Since 2011, Akume has been our leader in Benue state. We did ACN with him. We followed him to APC”, a disciple, Eneche Eneche said.
