Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, who would be ending his first term on May 29, 2023, has announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council while noting that other public office holders in the state have also been sacked. Members of the statutory bodies were however exempted.
He has done this ahead of the beginning of his second term in office.
Governor Seyi Makinde has asked all the affected persons to handover government property in their custody to the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies .
Pulsenews gathered this was made known via a letter signed by the governor’s Chief of Staff , who is also the Chairman, Transition & Inauguration Committee, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi.
‘I have the directive of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde to inform you of the dissolution of the Oyo State Executive Council and the termination of the appointment of all political officeholders with effect from today. Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
All political officeholders are required to officially hand over and submit government property in their possession to the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Please note that political officeholders in statutory commissions are excluded from this directive.

Makinde had won re-election on March 18 , 2023. He is the second governor to win a second term in the history of the state.
His immediate predecessor, late Abiola Ajimobi had broken the jinx in 2015 by getting re-elected.
