Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo state, has asked PDP stakeholders and members in Oke-ogun to remain vigilant because only when the party is in power would their demands and agitations be addressed.
He emphasized that the party members should remember that there were certain people in government before pleading with them not to become involved in anything that would harm the party’s chances in the upcoming election.
The governor, who made the remarks on Monday during the PDP stakeholders’ consultative meeting held at OYSADA Hall, Saki, said that he had listened to everyone and will address their issues at the town hall slated for 12 noon today.
He said: “Whatever you want, you can achieve those things when you are in government. As a result, we must be vigilant because some people were also in power before.
“I appreciate the Okere of Saki for his excellent admonition, and I appreciate the lack of any political factions because all stakeholders and others are present, including Onijo, a former aggrieved person who is now the governing chairman, The Polytechnic Saki, so that you are aware of the efforts we have been making and will continue to make.
“Like I said, not everyone have been appointed, but I can guarantee you that it will cut across. We just need to exercise patience. I can assure you that I won’t do anything to affect the party, PDP, from which I am also benefiting and from which I am confident that other people will soon also benefit.
On presidency, we are still talking and politics is still about interest. But this is not the time to make comment on that. By the grace of God, I will still be Governor for another four years, but I need to protect the interest of Oyo state with my position.
Makinde stressed that the party will take all necessary steps within the state to ensure that the candidates of the party win the forthcoming 2023 general election.
He added that even at the federal level, federal will not hang in the air; it begins at the polling unit and moves to the ward before reaching the national level.
While stating that a friend of the administration had already donated campaign buses, he gave the assurance that they would be distributed among the six local governments in a matter of days.
The zone has the fewest people who have obtained nomination forms, he said, adding that he would refund their money tonight.
He concluded by praising the Oke-Ogun zone for sticking to the party’s directive by refraining from purchasing forms.
Earlier in his remarks, the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for his inclusive government saying that the current government is the lover of masses who has shown love to the people of Oke-ogun.
“So, despite the fact that I am not a politician, I just have to show appreciation with my presence,” he said.
While listing some of the achievements made by this government, he urged the people of Oke-ogun to demonstrate their appreciation by striving to re-elect governor Makinde with a sizable number of votes, especially the people of Irepo who hold the deputy governorship position.
He reiterated that the reward for success is hardworking and there must be unity to be able achieve success in the forthcoming 2023 general election.
Okere urged all political leaders to return home and settle their differences amicably rather than in Ogbomoso where people were able to appease themselves, while advising that each candidate must do away with caucuses and instead see everyone as his own because it is the only way they can win the upcoming 2023 general election.
He also pledged that he would intervene in the party disputes that could have an impact on the general elections while submitting that the governor has no issue.
