The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Osun governorship election, Ademola Adeleke, has emerged winner of the exercise in 17 local government areas of the state.
Results of the election declared at the state collation centre in the early hours of Sunday showed that Adeleke defeated closest rival and incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola who won in 13 local government areas of the state.
It is the second time Adeleke contesting the seat. He was the candidate of the party in 2018 but lost to Oyetola after the election was declared inconclusive after the first ballot.
It was alleged that Adeleke was robbed of his victory then.
Announcing the winner Sunday morning, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the Returning Officer, said Adeleke polled a total of 40, 3371 votes as against that of his closest rival, Oyetola, who scored 375,027 votes to win the contest.
“I declare that Nurudeen Jackson Ademola on behalf of the Chairman of INECm having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared winner and is returned,” the Returning Officer said
